As promised in our last blog post, below is the video from Julia and Rick Llewellyn’s 2004 Spitsbergen trip with us. The video offers an excellent depiction of what you will see and do on most Spitsbergen cruises. And, if you look closely, you’ll see our very own Dennis Mense in the ship’s bridge, as well as shots of longtime TravelWild Expeditions leaders Gary Alt and Rinie van Meurs.
Thanks again to the Llewellyns for sharing this video with us!

Kathryn True
We love to share our clients’ experiences with people who are considering an Arctic or Antarctica cruise. Such is the case with Kathryn True’s experience on a Spitsbergen cruise a few years ago.
Kathryn is the author of Nature in the City: Seattle and writes the “Natural Wanders” series for The Seattle Times. In 2005 she traveled with us to Spitsbergen on the Professor Molchanov and she kept a travel journal from her trip. Kathyrn’s journal is posted on our website so people interested in Spitsbergen cruises can read it to learn more—from a client’s perspective—about what they will see and experience on these trips.

We thought the last video clip we posted was pretty good…and then we got the clip below from Louisa Mak taken on a 2003 Spitsbergen cruise!
If you’ve ever wondered what you might see on a Spitsbergen cruise, Louisa’s video gives you a great idea of the possibilities. Starting with two polar bears fighting over a seal, it also shows a bear coming a few feet from the bow of a ship, frolicking walruses, a dive-bombing arctic tern and a black guillemot swimming. Just a few of the sights you might see on a given day in Spitsbergen.
Thanks for sending the video, Louisa—it’s thrilling stuff to see! You can see some more of Louisa’s excellent wildlife photos on her website http://louisamak.com/.

On a 2006 Spitsbergen cruise, our ship came upon this polar bear with a fresh seal kill. The bear proceeded to drag the seal through the water and over the ice before it eventually fed on it. What a thrill it was to see this sort of polar bear behavior out on the ice!
